Remembering Billy Baggett

BILLY BAGGETT OBIT (2) (1)

Experience

Billy joined the IBEW in 1989. He worked the last three decades at CBS where he was helpful in Control Room 43 at the Broadcast Center.

Billy was highlighted in article back in 2013 when Sports Video Group asked about his craft covering the US Tennis Open.

Live From the US Open: CBS and ESPN Split Two-Story ‘Truck’ for US Open Audio

It’s a sea change for coverage of the USTA’s Grand Slam gem: CBS has had the broadcast rights since 1968.

For Baggett, however, it’s as though he never stopped mixing the music that got him started in pro audio 30 years earlier.  His fingers move constantly, tweaking the array of fixed Sennheiser 816 shotgun microphones as the ball moves between hemispheres of the court.

“I give a little more emphasis to the shotguns at each end of the court as the ball moves into each one,” Baggett explains.

Prior employment was Betelgeuse Productions in 1987, Douboy Productions in 1985 and KVL Audio/ Visual in 1984 (All production houses in Manhattan). He was also a Technical Supervisor at Jan Video in Long Island.

Billy had extensive experience mixing audio where he received a certificate in RF Comms and Equipment from the US Navy. He also learned at the Devry Technical Institute and Sony Broadcast.

When we have we more information to share about ways we can honor Billy’s memory, we will update the page.

Remembering Jeff Ringel – CBS Sports

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of IBEW 1212 member Jeffrey Ringel. Local 1212 remembers Jeff for his talent and vast accomplishments spanning a forty plus year career in broadcasting.

Brother Friedman

As we embark on this journey of life. There are times when we all need help and right now that time is now for one of our IBEW 1212 Brothers. Paul Friedman has been a member of IBEW 1212 since 2014. His work at CBS as a 403(g) Staff Supervisor can be seen on Network. While Paul continues to work, his family has teamed up with a great organization as they embark on a Kidney transplant. We ask that you read up on the organization “Renewal” that Paul and his wife Debbie have been partnering with. The best thing we all can do in a sign of solidarity is to pick up our own. The family wishes are that more people become aware that being an organ donor is one of the best things you can do. For additional information, please see the website link below.
