This is a letter from Edwin D. Hill former President of IBEW:
Dear International Office staff,
After nearly six decades of service to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, I am retiring as International President effective June 1.
I came to this decision after much thought and reflection, concluding it was the right time for the next generation of IBEW leadership to come to the fore.
Upon my recommendation, the International Executive Council has appointed Sixth District Vice President Lonnie Stephenson to be the next International President.
I wish Brother Stephenson all the best in his new endeavor. And I ask you to give him your complete support as he moves into his new role.
I also ask you to continue to support International Secretary-Treasurer Sam Chilia. I have been lucky to have him as my working partner and I thank him for all that he does for the IBEW. From overseeing health care to planning for the 2016 convention, Brother Chilia plays an invaluable role in our union – and will continue to do so.
And I have been blessed to have such a talented and devoted staff – both at the IO and across North America. The things I have accomplished in the last 18 years are due in large part to your energy and efforts. I want to thank every last one of you for everything you have done – not only for me but for our great brotherhood.
It has truly been an honor to work with all of you. I wish you well as you continue to serve the IBEW.
For those unable to make it to the poll site at the designated time here is the information to obtain an absentee ballot:
Any member desiring an absentee ballot must apply in accordance with the provisions of the following bylaw:
“Article III, Section 4(c)–Members in good standing and qualified to vote and who expect to be unable to visit the polls on election day may, at any time after nominations, but not less than five days prior to the date of the election, make application in writing to the election judge for an absentee ballot. Any such qualified applicant shall be furnished an official ballot and two envelopes. One envelope shall be smaller than the other and shall be marked only with the words “OFFICIAL BALLOT”. The larger envelope shall be preaddressed to the Election Board and shall contain a space in the upper left hand corner where the member shall write his/her name and address.”
“(d) Upon a member receiving an absentee ballot, he/she shall mark same and enclose it in the smaller envelope marked “OFFICIAL BALLOT”. This envelope shall then be placed in the larger envelope and mailed to the Election Board in time to be received before the polls are closed on election day.”
To request an absentee ballot a member may contact the office at 212-354-6770 and an Absentee Ballot Request form will be forwarded to them.
A quick reminder that the nominations for Officers of Local 1212 will be held today May 11 beginning at 4:30pm at the local Union Office. For those unsure of the address. It’s 225 West 34th Street – NY, NY 10122. The Suite # is 1120.
OSHA is reminding covered employers to post OSHA’s Form 300A, which summarizes the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred during 2014 and were logged on OSHA’s Form 300, the log of work-related injuries and illnesses. The summary must be posted betweenFeb. 1 and April 30, 2015, and should be displayed in a common area where notices to employees are usually posted.
Employers with 10 or fewer employees and employers in specific low-hazard industries are normally exempt from federal OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping and posting requirements. Due to changes in OSHA’s recordkeeping requirements that went into effect Jan. 1, 2015, certain previously exempt industries are now covered. Lists of both exempt and newly covered industries are available on OSHA’s website. Visit the Updates to OSHA’s Recordkeeping Rule Web page for more information on recordkeeping requirements.
