CBS –   

 

Halfly:            

 

Reps from Local 1212 joined Management at CBS and Reps from the International for 2 days of meetings to discuss various issues. Reps from 45, 1200 and 1220 also took part. BM’s also met with 401k Advisor & Rep from Flex Plan.

 

Sports:

 

Union has filed for arbitration on behalf of member. Date set for May 18th.

 

Grievance filed with the company June 8th regarding work jurisdiction. Grievance was denied. Matter will be going to arbitration. No date set as of yet.

 

News:     

 

Shop Steward notified BM/ BR of editing jurisdictions performed by production for the Weekend News. Union filed a grievance on 11/04/16. Matter ongoing.

 

Management confirmed that CBS Evening News will be moving to the CBS This Morning set. “CBS Evening News” has transmitted from Studio 57. Moving from nearby Studio 47.

Radio:            

 

Network Radio members will be transferred to the CBS News Division come the beginning of the New Year.

 

MDC:

 

Union held a call with Management over the suspensions levied against members. Matter ongoing.

 

Broadcast Center:

 

Sean Dugan from the Entertainment Flex Plan was in New York on Thursday; December 8th at the CBS Broadcast Center for all members. All were free to ask questions regarding their medical flex plan and 401k plan.

 

 

CBS Librarians

 

Union sent to committee for final review of new CBA and M.O.A. Term:1/1/16 -12/31/18.

Shop Steward notified BM and BR of potential move to CBS Evening News set.

 

 

FOX

 

Labor Management Meeting has been scheduled between both Fox and the International and Locals for February 9th, 2017.

Grievance filed by Union to company on members relocating from the Studios to the Communications Center. Date is set for December 19th.

Union has filed for Step 2 in the grievance procedure involving a reporter streaming to Facebook live for broadcast air.

Next round tentatively set for December 21 and 22.

Both sides met at the Union office for further negotiations. No date set for next round?

Union filed for Arbitration on behalf of member. Arbitration date has been moved to March 28, 2017.

Company has decided to cancel the 6 and 11pm show on New Year’s Eve.

 

Negotiations between both sides are set to continue December 13th at the local office.

BM, Counsel held a call with committee over current state of negotiations.

 

 

 

IBEW Conference

 

BM, BR participated in the 3-day Membership Development Conference.  The event featured speeches from International President Lonnie Stephenson and Keynote Speaker/ Author Jon Gordon. Workshops on generational divide in the workplace and organizing also consumed a good chunk of the conference.

Sports:           

 

Grievance filed with the company regarding work jurisdiction. Grievance was denied. Union has now filed an ICAP. Date has been set now tentatively for May 2nd, 2017.   

 

BM site visit for Giants vs Ravens – Week 6 at Metlife, as well as visit to Broadcast Center of CBS.

 

BM site visit for Jets vs Ravens – Week 7 at Metlife, as well as visit to Broadcast Center of CBS.

 

News:   

 

Shop Steward notified BM/ BR of editing jurisdictions performed by production for the Weekend News. Union filed a grievance. Matter ongoing.

 

BM, BR site visit and met with Supervisor and members to go over workflow for the weekend news.

 

Radio:

 

BM, BR, International Reps and Labor Relations held a conference call over benefits and upcoming enrollment for 2017.

 

Librarians:

 

Member notified BR that the appropriate ladders were delivered to our NJ location.

 

Interactive:

 

BM, International and Labor Relations was looking to meet on October 26th to discuss the existing contract with management. Meeting was rescheduled. Date undetermined.

 

FOX

 

International Reps, Business Managers from each local compromising the National Contract held a conference call to discuss meal periods on travel only days and travel work days per the last round of negotiations.

 

MSG

 

BM, BR met with management over lunch meeting to discuss staff and freelance workflow for upcoming Sports season.

 

HBO

 

Grievance filed by Union to company on members relocating from the Studios to the Communications Center. Issue ongoing.

 

 

TM PEOPLE  

 

BM, BR, Counsel held a conference call with Management and they’re attorney to finalize any adjustments to the proposed 2-year extension.

 

BM, BR, Committee tallied the votes for the new contract proposed to the membership. The vote passed overwhelmingly.

A grievance was filed by the Union regarding two Reporters shooting Cell Phone footage for air.

 

BR, Shop Steward held grievance meeting over four pending issues. Company admitted fault on one of the Cell Phone incidents. Matter ongoing for the other three.

 

Union did a follow up conference call involving cell phone footage grievance. Matter ongoing.

WNJU

Both sides met at the TV Station for another round of bargaining. Next round is not set officially.

 

BM, BR met with the members for a shop meeting.

 

 

WLIW

 

Both sides met at the WLIW Office on 10/25 for another round of negotiations. Next round not yet set.

9/09/16 – Company denied back pay to a member that was suspended and then reinstated. Union will be looking to recoup the monies owed. Union now filing for Arbitration.

9/11/16 – After a grievance was denied. Union has now filed an ICAP. Date is set for a later date (Not yet determined).

9/13/16 – BR and company fixed extra hours owed to Utility member on the PGA Championship load out on 8/1.

9/15/16 – Member inquired to BM and BR about money owed on the PGA Championship and the Barclays as a Utility worker. Payroll resolved issue.

9/18/16 – International Reps, BM and BR held a Conference Call over CBS Sports Network and the Graphics Department becoming IBEW.

9/19/16 – BM was made aware of injury to one of our Utility members at the remote site for the Week 2 Thursday Night Football game. Matter has been addressed with company and safety coordinator. Workers Compensation paperwork being filed as of 10/05/16.

9/26/16 – BM, BR, Vice President Bill Zizza and Shop Steward David Ringel held a Shop Meeting for the new members of IBEW Local 1212. 16 in total from graphics dept.

9/27/16 – BM, BR and Business Manager from another Union are investigating pay scales for one of our Hyphenates. Counsel has also been made aware & weighed in.

9/13/16 – Shop Steward notified BM/ BR of editing jurisdictions performed by production for the Weekend News. BR and Vice President did a follow up on 10/6/16. Union reviewing the matter.

 

WCBS

9/15/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a conference call over a final warning letter issued by the company. A letter has been drafted by the Union to the company. Matter ongoing.

9/20/16 – BM spoke with Labor Relations over a member and the Final Warning Letter. The Union has asked that the letter be removed from his file.

10/06/16 – BR & Vice President met with Management over separation letter with a 403g member & the position being eliminated.

10/06/16 – One of our members who was recently made staff, left the shop to pursue other employment opportunities.

9/14/16 – BM emailed VP of CBS News issues over Interactive. Company responded with answers on 9/15. A Labor Management Meeting is set for September 30th to hash the rest.

9/30/16 – BM, BR, VP Bill Zizza and Shop Steward held a Labor Management Meeting with the company. Many items discussed, additions to staff, upcoming raises and workflow.

10/06/16 – BR & Vice President met with Shop Steward over emergency news and members being asked to stay passed they’re out scheduled time. Also the subject of meals and breaks was raised.

HBO

9/01/16 – BR and Counsel spoke with a member whose short-term disability claim was denied. Matter ongoing.

9/14/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a Conference Call to review the HBO relocation of members from NYC Studios to Hauppauge. All parties effected by this transfer were present.

9/26/16 – BM, Counsel and Committee held a Labor Management Meeting at the Communications Center in Long Island. Company did email back answers to concerns on 10/07/16.

 

TM PEOPLE

9/13/16 – Member notified BM of insurance change company wide to dental plan. Counsel has reviewed the argument and has instructed the Union that the company is within their right.

9/13/16 – BM in contact with Counsel on arbitration over member terminated from Team People in mid-July.

9/15/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a call with Committee to update them on the negotiations.

9/27/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a shop meeting for the proposed contract offer that is being given to our members. The proposed deal is a 2-year contract with raises in both years.

WPIX

9/08/16 – Shop Steward notified BM of meetings being held between two members. Both have been suspended indefinitely until further notice.

9/13/16 – Shop Steward filed a grievance for two of our members that were suspended for damage to a camera and another who damaged the antenna to the microwave satellite truck.

9/28/16 – Counsel notified BM of company separation letter. Shop Steward then updated the list of names on 9/29/16. More information to follow.

9/30/16 – Counsel notified BM that WPIX reached a settlement. The company shall pay to the Radio and Broadcast Television Scholarship Fund the sum of $255.66, representing 6 hours at the current 4+ year engineer’s rate of pay as provided in the CBA.

10/03/16 – Shop Steward filed a grievance for two Anchor/ Reporters shooting footage with Cell Phone with purpose of going to air.
WNJU

9/15/16 – Shop Steward held a conference call with BM, BR and Counsel of an engineer brought in at a higher scale then the CBA 1 to 2-year escalator. Matter is ongoing. Counsel drafted a letter for the company. Waiting to hear from company.

9/17/16 – BR did a follow up. Member’s day off falls on certain Holidays, that person was entitled to the same allocated Holidays per the CBA. Matter has been resolved.

9/28/16 – Counsel confirmed next bargain date for negotiations is set for October 12th. Company is also looking to meet on October 18th but that date as yet to be confirmed.

9/30/16 – BM was notified from company that member on last chance warning was guilty of being unprepared for a shoot in NYC. Union discussing options with company.

10/04/16 – BR was notified from member about a meeting held between him and the company over content being posted to social media platforms. Union is aware and reviewing the matter. BM and BR did a follow up call with member on 10/07/16.

9/28/16 – Company canceled the next round of negotiations for 9/29/16. Both sides looking to reschedule. No date set yet.

 

WNET

9/23/16 – BR and Counsel were informed of a member who was booked on a job and then removed. The company and Union has spoken and an agreed settlement was met with the member.

 

WFAN –          9/28/16 – CBS Labor Relations notified BM that they would like to postpone the start of negotiations. Union has countered with the date be October 26th. Awaiting response.

 

OFFICE

 

Pension Meeting

9/16/16 – BM, BR, Counsel & Attorney from the Multi-Employer Pension Fund held meetings all day for the Shops at WNJU, WADO Radio and WXTV.

 

39th IBEW International Convention

9/17/16 to 9/24/16 – BM, BR and six other delegates, five of whom are on the Executive Board spent one week in the home where the IBEW was founded back in 1891 (St. Louis, MO). One hundred twenty-five years of Electrical Workers around this great land and Canada representing all 11 districts of the Brother/ Sister-hood. This was International President Lonnie Stephenson’s first Convention. They convention centered around organizing and growing in numbers but mainly the speakers and guests centered they’re message around the upcoming Presidential Election.

Sports

8/19/16 – After a grievance was denied, Union has now filed an ICAP. Date is set for November 9th and 10th.

8/22/16 – Some Utilities have not been paid for their work at the PGA Championship. BM and BR have notified the company.

8/22/16 – BR have been in contact with IBEW Local 41 for fielding a crew of Utilities for the CBS – Thursday Night Football game week 2.

8/24/16 – BM, International Rep & BR did a site visit at the Barclays Tournament at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, NY out in Long Island.

9/06/16 – Company denied back pay to a member that was suspended and then reinstatement. Union will be looking to recoup the monies owed.

9/07/16 – BR still working with company over extra hours owed to Utility member on the PGA Championship.

9/11/16 – BM did a site visit to Met-Life Stadium and the CBS Broadcast Center for the opening weekend of the NFL season.

9/07/16 – Shop Steward/ ABM & member held a conference call with BM and BR over a final warning letter issued by the company. A follow up call with Counsel was set for 9/9. Matter ongoing.

8/22/16 – Committee Member notified BM and BR that ladder had been ordered for NY shop. Also retro owed to member’s post ratification has been paid.

8/15/16 – BM and BR spoke with VP of CBS News over issues at Interactive.

8/22/16 – Company responded back to the Union over issues concerning the Interactive members. A Labor Management Meeting is set for September 30th to hash the rest.

 

FOX

8/12/16 – BM and BR made a site visit to Yankee Stadium.

8/15/16 – BM and BR sent to the I/O the 4 lead Utilities per the new CBA.

8/19/16 – Member worked the US Junior Girls Championship in July at the Ridgewood CC. Never was compensated. Finally heard back from company on 8/31. Looks like the paperwork is being filed.

 

 

HBO

8/12/16 – Committee from NY Studios along with BM and Counsel met with the company at the HBO Grace building to discuss members being relocated from NYC to the Communications Center in Hauppauge.

8/15/16 – Payroll notified the member of the time card for late March where Tech Training was in fact not credited.  Matter is still pending. However, the companies did correct “A” Scale Rate for both Supervisor and Tech Trainer.

8/17/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a Conference Call to review the HBO meeting about relocating the members from NYC Studios to Hauppauge.

8/23/16 – BR delivered hard copy contracts to one of the committee members to distribute across the shop. BM is handling our members in Long Island.

9/01/16 – BR and Counsel spoke with a member whose short-term disability claim was denied.

09/08/16 – Office notified BR that member was elevated to staff position.

TM PEOPLE

8/10/16 – As of August, Team People switched to a new transit company. Human Resources explained that because of the switch we would not be receiving the Transit cards on time but would be eligible for reimbursement.

8/16/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a Conference Call with the Committee over the company’s response to the Union’s contract proposals.

8/22/16 – Member who was terminated from Team People reached out to the Local. A grievance has been filed.

 

 

WPIX

9/08/16 – Shop Steward notified BM of meetings being held between two members. Both have been suspended indefinitely until further notice.

9/09/16 – Shop Steward notified BM of VJ filling in for an anchor edited a piece that aired on the news cast. Union reviewing the matter.

9/09/16 – Shop Steward notified BM that PIX11 will be airing the Veterans Day parade on November 11. The event will be covered in its entirety and stream on PIX11.com

 

 

WNJU

8/09/16 – Negotiations began in NJ. BM, BR and Counsel and the Committee met with the company. The second round was at the local office on 8/19. Including submitting of proposals on both sides. Next round of bargaining has been set for October 12th.

8/24/16 – Committee member notified BM and BR of a newly hired staff engineer.

8/24/16 – Member’s day off falls on certain Holidays, that person should be entitled to the same allocated Holidays per the CBA. Matter has been approached to company by BR.

8/30/16 – Committee member notified BM and BR of an engineer brought in at a higher scale then the CBA 0 to 1-year escalator. Matter is ongoing.

Negotiations are still ongoing. BM and Counsel met with the company on September 8th. Both sides will be meeting again on 9/29 at the local office.

7/18/16 – Counsel notified the Union – Member in question’s arbitration dates have been assigned. AAA has inquired regarding IBEW Local 1212’s availability. The date set is looking like December 13.

 

WXTV

8/25/16 – Counsel, Committee Members and BR met with the company on another round of negotiations. Next round of negotiations is not scheduled as of yet.

9/06/16 – BM spoke with Pension representative about setting up a date and time for the members to ask any and all questions / concerns involving the multi-employer pension. Date is set for September 16th. Email was blasted to membership on 9/8.

 

WFAN

8/12/16 – Committee member confirmed that member due a pay increase was awarded one. It seems like all members involved in the CBA have now been paid correctly.

8/17/16 – BR met with Committee at the Hudson Studios to go over the current contract and construct the new contract proposals for upcoming negotiations. The existing agreement expired on August 22nd.

8/31/16 – CBS Labor Relations notified BM that they would like to move forward with the start of negotiations. As of now, 9/29 tentatively is set to begin the first round of negotiations.

 

 

OFFICE

8/15/16 – Shirts for the Labor Day Parade arrived. A reminder that the parade is this Saturday September 10th. Meeting at the local by 11am.

Sports:  7/27-7/29/16 – BM and International Representatives did 3 site visits at the PGA Championship in Springfield, NJ.

8/2/16 BR and Vice President Zizza saw the new Grass-valley Switchers and upgrades to the Co-oord rooms.

8/4/16 BM & International Rep have a Video Conference on 8/8 to discuss Sports workflow for the Fall.

 

COE: 8/2/16 BR and Vice President Zizza did a full tour of the Studios last Tuesday at CBS. Harry Connick Show is still being built by our members, the show is expected to start filming next month. The NFL AM show down the hall already began their new season.

 

Librarians: 7/12/16 – BM, BR & Committee met with Company for a Labor Management Meeting.

7/19/16 – Committee member notified BM and BR of safer ladders being ordered for NJ and NY. Rubber caps to defend from sharp edges and repair on Film Equipment too.

7/21/16 – Labor notified BM of wage increases.

8/5/16 – Committee member recapped BM and BR of Post Production workflow meeting in the Hard News Center.

 

Interactive: 7/12/16 – BM, BR and VP of CBS News discussed CBSN’s output and its role to stream the Republican and Democratic Conventions on the Social Media Platform Twitter. All work was done and transmitted IBEW.

7/12/16 – BR spoke with Shop Steward over latest issues and concerns with work rules and shortened staff.

8/3/16 – Company notified the members via email that a new member will be training on the floor both Saturday and Sunday 8/6 and 8/7. The following weekend the member will begin his role as the regular CBSN weekend floor technician.

 

FOX

 7/21/16 – The company held a video conference with the company from their headquarters in Los Angeles. The International reps along with Locals from 4, 1200, 1220, 1212 and 45 were on hand.

 

HBO

 7/14/16 – BR met with Committee members at 23rd street Studios. Topic of contract and freelancers was discussed.

7/15/16 – BM & BR along with Counsel held a Conference Call with Long Island Shop at HBO.

7/18/16 – BR along with Counsel held a Conference Call with NY Studio Shop at HBO.

7/20/16 – Company notified BM of transfer to a handful of members from the NY Studios to Long Island’s Communication’s Center. The expected transfer would take place sometime in the Fall.

7/21/16 – BR and member held a call with the company payroll department over training and supervisor differential.

7/28/16 – A fully executed copy of the current HBO Collective Bargaining Agreement was forwarded to all of the committee members. The Union will be distributing copies to the membership at a later date.

8/01/16 – HR and Payroll notified the Union that the members Tech Trainer rate was incorrectly calculated per the CBA. They will be issuing the appropriate monies owed in the next pay period.

8/5/16 – A Labor Management Meeting was confirmed for 8/12 at the HBO Grace Building in Bryant Park.

 

 

TM PEOPLE

7/12/16 – BM, BR and Counsel held a conference call to notify the membership that we will start to share contract proposals.

7/12/16 – Committee member notified BM of a member who was caught sleeping on the job. Team People doing a thorough investigation.

7/13/16 – BM spoke with Management at Team People over member who is currently facing termination. Investigation is ongoing.

7/19/16 – BR and Counsel sent final proposals to committee for approval.

7/26/16 – Counsel sent final proposals to the company as negotiations are hoping to commence soon.

7/26/16 – BM filed a grievance on behalf of the member that was terminated by Team People. Awaiting company’s response.

8/4/16 – BM, BR and Counsel had a Conference Call with the Committee.

7/21/16 – Shop Steward notified BR of member being stripped of sick time while on FMLA.

 

WNJU

7/12/16 – BM was notified by the company of a member hitting a sprinkler head in the parking lot premises.

7/15/16 – Human Resources alerted the staff of a new freelance photog/editor at Telemundo Channel 47. The members official start date will be 7/18.

7/19/16 – BM, BR held a call with member in question over the company’s decision regarding discipline involving a sprinkler head damaged.

8/5/16 –  Negotiations are set to begin on 8/9 in the New Jersey location. Followed by a second round on 8/18 in NJ.

Negotiations are still ongoing.

7/21/16 – BM and Counsel revised the draft sent over from the company.

7/20/16 – Another round of bargaining. Both sides met at the local union office this round.

7/28/16 – Counsel notified the Union that the company is still confirming the next round of negotiations. Tentatively it is set for August 25th.

 

WINS

7/20/16 – The Union had inquired about recall rights to previous members laid off last year. The company did some follow up research. They at this time have no intentions of replacing a recent member who resigned back in late May.

7/14/16 – The company has notified the BM that all pay/ wage increases have been fixed in the existing CBA.

7/28/16 – Shop Steward notified the local that not all members wage increases went into effect. Counsel confirmed that one of the members is still owed a 2% increase. BM will be notifying the company to resolve this issue.

 

OFFICE

 7/28/16 – BR got the green light from President Naeder to order the T-Shirts for Labor Day’s 2016 Parade and the International Convention. (King Louie was the outfit – US and Union Made)

Hard News:  6/24/16 – BR spoke with supervisor to discuss weekend workflow and manpower.

WCBS: 6/22/16 – BM and Counsel reviewing final settlement on rest penalty time owed to one of our members.

Librarians: 6/17/16 – BR did a site visit at the CBS Librarians shop in NY.

CBSN:  BM & BR have spoken with Shop Steward over issues with meals, breaks, short turnarounds and shortened staff. Looking to schedule a date to meet with company over existing issues.

 

FOX

Fox Sports: 6/14/16 – Over the course of three days BM & BR along with reps from the International did a site visit to Oakmont CC, site of the 2016 Men’s US Open Championship.

7/01/14 – BR & Reps from International Administered Video Conferencing tests in preparation for a video conference with locals from 4, 45, 1200, 1220 and 1212. Another test call was administered on 7/7/16. The official call will also involve reps from the International and management from Fox. The date is set for July 21.

7/07/14 – International rep informed the local that a member was pulled off a Fox Sports baseball game for being outstanding in dues and is now on the non-compliance list.

 

HBO

HBO: 6/17/16 – BM was notified of issues and concerns over per diems and total hours at the shop.

6/20/16 – BM did a visit to Smithtown on Long Island. Met with Shop Stewards to discuss issues pertaining to supervisors, freelancers and lack of man power in master control.

6/22/16 – BR did a site visit to HBO studios on 23rd street and Lexington Ave. Met with Shop Steward to discuss freelance usage and training.

6/30/16 – BM, BR and Shop Stewards held a conference call to discuss a member who has been paid incorrectly.

 

TEAM PEOPLE/ UN

Team People: 6/13/16 – BR and Counsel met with the committee to go over proposals towards a new CBA. BM was notified and has had discussions with management. No date has been set yet for negotiations but looking to meet soon.

 

WPIX 

WPIX:   6/20/16 – BM, BR, Counsel and Shop Steward discussed matter involving Engineering grievance that was filed.

6/28/16 – BR and Shop Steward spoke regarding cell phone usage by a reporter outside the 50-mile territorial jurisdiction of the CBA.

 

WNJU

WNJU:  6/21/16 – BM & Management met in NYC for a pre-negotiation lunch meeting.

6/24/16 – BM, BR and Counsel met with committee to discuss proposals for upcoming negotiations.

07/01/16 – Company alerted the local of a new hiring, a freelance editor. Due to their 5pm expansion, they will be interviewing for a new Engineer to join the team as well.

07/07/16 – Counsel informed the BM of confirmed dates for the upcoming negotiations. First round will begin on August 9th, as well as 2 other dates in August. Those dates are scheduled for August 12th and 18th.

WNET:   Matter has now been sent to arbitration regarding one of our members.

7/07/16 – Member spoke with BR about weekend show and the Union’s affiliation with the show. BM has been briefed.

 

WXTV

WXTV: 6/27-6/28/16 – Over the course of two days negotiating (once in New York and the other day in New Jersey) both sides met. Negotiations are ongoing, July 20th at the Union Office is the next round of bargaining.

 

RADIO 

WINS: 6/21/16 – BM was notified by a former member of WINS to be recalled back to previous employer. Counsel is reviewing the CBA based on time away from employer & seniority.

WFAN: BR and Counsel have had ongoing dialogue with Shop Steward over wage increases of the current CBA. Two of our member’s payroll issue is being corrected. Company is still investigating other member.

 

OFFICE–  6/23/16 – Vice President Bill Zizza and Executive Board member Tom Ferrante met with the management that hosted the 2015 IBEW Holiday party. The VP has informed the office staff of the upcoming preparations for the 2016 Holiday Party. Nothing is officially set but both parties seemed pleased with the outcomes so far.

CND:  5/26/16 – BM, BR spoke with International Rep and member over potential violation feeding footage back live.

5/31/16 – BM, BR, International Rep held a call and spoke with members of CBS News over a series of violations that needed to be filed regarding cell phone and prosumer camera language.

6/07/16 – International Rep replies back to email group attaching the Cmpany’s response to 3 alleged violations.

6/09/16 – International Rep held a conference call to review the company’s response to the cited incidents in May.

 

CSD:  6/08/16 – BM filed a grievance to CBS Labor Relations about a Wireless Monitor being operated by Production.

 

WCBS:  6/6/16 BM and BR spoke with shop steward over a member that is due back pay from rest penalty time.

 

CBS Radio: 5/26/16 – BM and BR spoke with Counsel and members of those effected by Sabbatical time owed dating back to 1999 agreement when the side-letter went away.

 

Librarians: 6/2/16 – BR made a site visit to the NJ Library in Iselin, NJ. The archive houses 52 aisles of history on just the first level alone. The racks on each aisle are almost 20 feet in height. Tape formats from 2” to HD-Cam are all stowed here.

6/7/16 – Committee Member alerted us that one of the librarians was elevated to a staff position.

6/8/16 – BM and BR confirmed the Labor Management Meeting with CBS is set for 7/12/16 at 10am with the committee and 11am with the company.

 

CBSN:  6/10/16: Issues with meals, breaks, short turnarounds and shortened staff is being raised. A conference call was set for 6/13 to resolve.

Fox Sports: Conference call for members with any questions or concerns regarding a new CBA was initially set to take place June 8th and June 9th to accommodate our members out west. The conference call is now set for late June.

3rd District Progress Meeting: BM, BR met locals from all over the 3rd District in Philadelphia, PA. VP of the 3rd District – Don Siegel along with Local 98 hosted a 3-day conference that involved workshops and a day of giving back that the Business Rep took part in along with other members of the 3rd District Youth Caucus. Guest speakers such as International President Lonnie Stephenson, Mayor of Philadelphia Jim Kenney and US Senator Candidate for Pennsylvania Katie McGinty also took part in the festivities.

 

75th Anniversary Pin: The finished pins for the International Convention arrived Tuesday 5/24/16.

Company Halfly:  5/10 to 5/12 CBS, International & officers/ members from Local 1212 along with the same from Local 45, 1200 and 1220 engaged in 3 days of meetings. This is the first of two gatherings this year.

CND: 4/19 BM was on a conference call over weekend news coverage and workflow.   5/7 BM was present for debut of CBS Weekend News at the Broadcast Center on Saturday, May 7th.

 

Hard News:  BR spoke with operators in Hard News regarding jurisdictional issues.

 

WCBS: 4/27 BM and BR met with the Company for a Labor Management meeting.

 

CBS Librarians

Librarians: BM and BR met with management and the committee in a second round of negotiations. A deal was struck; the agreement is a 3-year extension through 2019.

CBSN:  Pending grievance for piecing airing on 4/27.

 

FOX 

Fox Sports: Tentative agreement of a new CBA. New 3-year agreement will run through 2019. Conference call for Ballots expected to go out by 5/21. There will also be a conference call on June 8th and 9th for members with any questions or concerns.

 

MSG 

MSG:  MSG’s Flex Plan contributions to eligible freelance employees under our CBA. Pursuant to the CBA, MSG would make a lump sum contribution by the end of January 2016 for all per diem employees that worked less than 750 hours in 2015.

 

WPIX 

WPIX: 3 freelance members have been upgraded to full rate/ day based on the 20 satisfactory shift requirement.

WNJU: Labor management meeting was scheduled on 5/13/16. BM/ BR and Counsel met with Committee and the Company.

WLIW: 4/28; BM, BR and Counsel met with committee & the company as negotiations towards a new CBA continue.

WNET: Arbitration filed on behalf of member. Member filed a grievance regarding over charged PTO days by the company. After consulting with BM, BR and Counsel. The grievance was pulled back.

 

WXTV 

WXTV: BM & BR met with committee at the Union Office on 5/3/16 in preparation for negotiations towards a new CBA. The committee will meet again on 5/18/16 and negotiations with the company officially start Friday, May 20th.

 

OFFICE 

EVERTZ/ Dreamcatcher Training: Over 12 playback operators from CBS worked over a total of 4 days from the week of 4/11-4/15/16. Classes led by Brandon Law of Evertz dissected the wonderful and powerful commands of the playback operation. Members offered positive feedback.

 

NAB 2016: BM, BR and Vice President of the Executive Board flew to Vegas for the annual NAB Convention. Vendors and meetings arranged were with Sony, Evertz, Ross, AP ENPS, Pronology, For A Corp, Telestream and Wildmoka. Other booths visited were Avid, EVS and Leder Electronics.

 

75th Anniversary Pin: BR purchased 500 units at 1 ¼ inch in size for the International Convention later this year in St. Louis. Universal Promotions was the outfit which has done work for IBEW in the past and other union organizations.

Business Managers Report

 

CBS

Broadcast Center: Business Manager Ralph Avigliano and Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle accompanied by Vice President William Zizza performed a site visit at CBS Broadcast Center during the second day of the NCAA Tournament (3/18/16). Visits included Sports Playback area, Avid Editing suites, Interactive and the New TX where we got a tour from President Mike Naeder and former Vice President Mike Fosso of the Construction Shop.

 

Sports: International Rep Vincent Butler and Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle did a site visit in Houston, TX – host of the 2016 NCAA Final Four (4/1/16). They met with our members and management. One of the issues brought up was HH-Camera Operators under the basket operating with a new chair issued by the NCAA. The company is on our side as far as safety issues.

 

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano and Reps from the International Office did a site visit on April 6, 2016 at Augusta, GA – host of the 2016 Masters. Positive response from members with the support and backing from Union representation.

 

News Division: Business Manager Ralph Avigliano and Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle met with Shop Steward Todd Weiss and members at Hard News Center on April 4, 2016 regarding work that is being taken away on the weekends. Jurisdiction and migration to the web was one of the many issues addressed.

 

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano is also making a visit this weekend at the Broadcast Center to address similar issues to staff and freelancers impacted by the company’s sudden change to weekend morning and evening news.

 

Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle is still addressing issues from members regarding Avid upgrade installations at the Hard News Center and playout issues regarding ENPS and MOS during the morning news. Both issues remained unresolved but information is being collected at this time.

 

MDC: Vice President William Zizza and Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle met with management to discuss issue between two IBEW members. Issue has been resolved but the Union will continue to monitor the situation moving forward.

 

Newspath: Vice President William Zizza and Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle did a site tour with Peter Eilenberg on March 30, 2016. Peter is a 403G Tech and Supervisor who updated the Union on technology and workflow. They also met with other members within Newspath.

 

CBS Radio: Business Manager Avigliano, Business Rep O’Boyle and Vice President William Zizza conducted a conference call on April 7, 2016 with the two members impacted over possible sabbatical time owed.

 

CBS News Library: Business Manager Ralph Avigliano, Business Rep O’Boyle and legal counsel met with Negotiations Committee and Company back in February. Deal is close to being finalized. Economics and the talk of a three-year agreement remain positive. The two sides look to wrap final negotiations at the end of this month. Safety is also of major concern as the company looks to hash out any issues. Safety Officer Dan Snyder and Executive Board Member Timothy Long have also been notified.

 

FOX 

Fox Sports: Business Manager Ralph Avigliano and International Reps met with the company for another round of bargaining in Florida. Negotiations continued all week from March 28th through April 1. A three-year agreement is tentatively in place and has been sent out to the members. (See Website.)

 

TEAM PEOPLE

Team People/ United Nations: Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle and Negotiations Committee met at the Local 1212 office on Wednesday, March 30th 2016. Agenda items for the upcoming CBA were discussed. No date set yet with the company to meet but looking to be end of April or first week of May.

 

WPIX 

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano, Shop Steward and Business Rep O’Boyle met with company over grievance filed on March 15, 2016 regarding jurisdiction. Matter has not been resolved and is ongoing. Shop Steward Tom Cassidy also performed a site visit with Business Rep O’Boyle to discuss issues at the Shop later that day.

Business Manager Avigliano, Business Rep O’Boyle and Union Counsel met with Company on March 22, 2016 over agenda items that touched on safety concerns, vacation disputes and “TONS” named base server for “Tracking”, operated by non-union personnel. Other issues included a member signing as an “At Will Hire”, One Man Band upgrades and retro owed from last year. The recently filed grievance was also addressed with the company and their counsel. The issue is ongoing.

 

WNJU 

WNJU: Union/ Committee meeting with the company on April 14th as the current CBA is nearing expiration.

 

WLIW 

WLIW: Business Manager and Labor Counsel met with company on March 24, 2016 as the two sides continue to hash out jurisdictional issues regarding editing and camera work. The next meeting is set for Thursday, April 28th.

 

RADIO 

WFAN: Committee and Union in talks with agenda items as current CBA nears expiration. No date set as of yet but talks continue.

WCBS: Settlement reached on the disciplinary action.

CBS Radio: Met with labor relations to discuss possible violation of the CBA.

 

CBS News Library

 

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano met with the Negotiations Committee and Company to discuss the term and economics of the new CBA.  Safety issues were also brought up with company.  Safety Officer Dan Synder and Executive Board Member Tim Long have been notified. Negotiations are ongoing with the next scheduled meeting TBD.

 

Business Rep Ryan O’Boyle did a site visit with Negotiations Committee member, Jeff Lauro, on Thursday, February 25th. The visit involved the state of the library’s functions and workflow as well as future plans for MAM integration.

A tentative agreement has been ratified by members.

Negotiations continue with the next meeting scheduled for February 24, 2016

A Grievance meeting was held on behalf of a member but no agreement was reached.  Arbitration is now pending.

A tentative Labor/Management meeting is scheduled for February 19, 2016

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano made numerous site visits to MetLife Stadium in December.

SND

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano met with management to discuss various issues including the use of non IBEW personnel in Graphics Department and scheduling issues. Conversations continue on upgrade utility positions and meal relief concerns on the PGA Golf Tour.

CND

We are awaiting dates from the News Department for a Labor/Management meeting.

WCBS

Business Manager Ralph Avigliano met with management and ABM to discuss various issues including training, scheduling and manpower.

COE

Awaiting dates from COE for a Labor/ Management meeting.

FOXSPORTS

NFL: During numerous site visits to MetLife Stadium, BM Ralph Avigliano meet with members.

Negotiations: The first round of negotiations were held January 2 – 5, 2016 in Los Angeles Calf.  The next round has been scheduled for February 8 – 11, 2016 in Daytona, Florida.

HBO

Negotiations with the Company have concluded and a tentative agreement has been reached. Shop meetings have been scheduled for January 14, 2016 at the HBO Communications Center in Hauppauge and at the Studio in New York City on January 15, 2016 to review the tentative agreement with the HBO membership.

There are serious safely concerns at HBO Communications Center. A site inspection has been scheduled for January 13, 2016.

WPIX

Management cancelled a One Man Band meeting scheduled for January 11, 2016 We are awaiting new dates from the company.

WLIW

Negotiations continue, however a January 12th meeting date was cancelled by the company. A new meeting has been scheduled for January 25, 2016

WNET

A Grievance meeting was held on behalf of a member. We are awaiting a response from the Company on a Union demand.

WADO

Discussions were held with management on possible discipline action to be taken against a member.
