BUSINESS MANAGER’S REPORT

 

 

CBS:   

11/28/17 –Sean Dugan from the Entertainment Flex Plan will be at the Ed Sullivan Theatre on 12/11/17 between 10-1pm. He will also be at the CBS Broadcast Center on 12/14/17 from 10-5pm.

 

SPORTS:                   

04/28/17 – Arbitration in June postponed. Date will be rescheduled for March 6th, 2018.

09/06/17 – BM & BR spoke with members from golf crew over the issues on the tour. BR did a follow up on 10/26 & another with management on 11/26. Matter appears resolved.

10/24/17 – BM, International Reps and Management met for a meeting in person and on the phone to discuss workflow in the field. Matter ongoing. Follow up was done on 11/29.

11/19/17 – (Site Visit) BM met with members and management at the Broadcast Center. BR did a visit at Metlife, home to the Giants vs Chiefs game.

12/03/17 – (Site Visit) BM/ BR met with members and management at the Metlife, home to the Jets vs Chiefs game.

 

WCBS:                      

11/20/17 – Shop Steward met with Management and members of Master Control and explained the hubbing role out.

 

NEWS:                      

12/07/17 – BR confirmed with Labor Relations about member retiring end of the month being entitled to remaining Vacation and Holidays. Matter resolved.

12/07/17 – Shop Steward provided Union with information over possible grievance with non-union personnel performing maintenance. Matter ongoing.

 

 

FOX SPORTS:        

10/23/17 – Members cancelled within the 108 hours. BR did a follow up 11/28 – Members confirmed they have been paid.

 

 

MSG:                 

11/28/17 – Member reached out to BR over canceled shift on November 14th for the next day’s event. Union advised he put in for the shift that was canceled.

WPIX:

WNJU:           

10/30/17 – Company has issued the chart outlining the bargaining unit’s increases. Counsel / BR had conference call on 12/04/17. Matter ongoing.

11/08/17 – Union sent redlined version for committee review of the CBA.  Counsel speaking with company legal team.

11/08/17 – Initial meeting started at 9am for ENG members but then changed to 10am. Union and company corrected the change in schedule to reflect 1 hour of OT in following pay cycle.

11/16/17 – BR was invited to attend longtime member’s retirement.

11/20/17 – Committee Member confirmed with Union – WNBC and WNJU – Telemundo have started a San Juan Puerto Rico news bureau.

11/28/17 – Member signed warning letter that Union and company agreed upon.

 

 

WXTV:

PRUDENTIAL CENTER:   

 

11/28/17 – Union held a ratification meeting at IBEW 1158 in Clifton, NJ. Ballots for ratification were mailed out on 11/30 and due back to Union Office by 12/14.

12/06/17 – Company sent over draft of CBA for Union review.

 

 

WFAN:

11/17/17 – Entercom Communications completed its merger with CBS Radio Inc. Counsel has been in talks with labor team for Entercom to continue negotiations.

 

OFFICE:            

 

12/08/17 – December 8th between 2-10 pm, the Union will throw its annual Holiday party for all IBEW 1212 members at McHales Pub in Hells Kitchen on 51st street.

10/19/17 – CBS Sports live streaming service is opting to de-emphasize live sports and focus instead on news and talk.

10/18/17 – (Site Visit) BM/ BR/ IBEW Local 5 Representative joined Management for a tour of MSG.

9/26/17 – BR notified by members of discrepancy in pay scales. BR has been in touch with Management to address this. Matter ongoing.

11/03/17 – Company issued an email to Members about an amendment regarding weekly pay being transferred to an hourly rate per the CBA. BR has informed counsel.

 

WNET:                    

11/09/17 – Counsel confirmed next round of negotiations will be November 15.

 

WNJU:                     

10/11/17 – Company expressed concerns with member to Union. Union is reviewing matter.

10/17/17 – Company recognized member with the Telemundo Channel 47 award.

10/23/17 – Company confirmed that the company floating Holidays added to the new CBA.

10/25/17 – Company celebrated IBEW member appreciation day. Cristina Schwarz; General Manager of the station spoke on behalf of the members.

10/30/17 – Company has issued the chart outlining the bargaining unit’s increases. Union confirming with counsel. BR did a follow up with company on 11/08. Matter ongoing.

11/02/17 – Company notified the Union that long tenured member of the bargaining unit is resigning in a few weeks.

11/08/17 – Union sent redlined version for committee review of the CBA.

10/25/17 – Company canceled negotiations on 10/26/17. The next dates to meet will November 16th and 17th.

10/24/17 – Union asked for the company to reschedule the negotiation that was originally slated for 10/25/17.

11/06/17 – BM, International Representative Dominic Macchia, BR, Counsel and the committee came to tentative agreement with the company.

11/08/17 – BM, BR, International Representative Dominic Macchia, Counsel held a call with the committee to go over terms of the agreement. Shop Meeting is set for November 28th.

 

 

WFAN:                    

10/16/17 – Company and Union met for negotiations.

10/24/17 – BM, BR, Counsel held a meeting with shop over the contract talks.

11/09/17 – BM, BR, Counsel held a conference call with shop over the contract talks.

 

OFFICE:        

10/18-10/19 – BR and Representative from IBEW Local 5; Jim Ryan did a visit to the Fall NAB Show in NYC. Met with reps from Sony, LiveU, Sling Studio, Encompass, Evertz and many more.

10/29-11/01/17 – BM and International Representative Dominic Macchia as well as chair counsel members from other IBEW locals met for a 2-day conference to discuss changes in technology and regulations with networks and stations.

NEGOTIATIONS:

09/15/17 – President Mike Naeder and members; Greg Cardone, George Klimcsak, Glenn Kucera and Tim Long tallied the votes at the Union Office. In NY, the contract passed.

09/18/17 – Universally the contract passed and was ratified by the membership. The contract will take effect on Feb 1, 2018 and will run through April of 2021.

 

SPORTS:         

04/28/17 – Arbitration in June postponed. Date will be rescheduled for March 6th, 2018.

06/06/17 – Arbitration on behalf of member was canceled May 18th and now has been rescheduled for December. 

08/17/17 – Company reached out to BR over member’s sick days in this calendar year.

09/06/17 – BM & BR spoke with member from golf crew over the issues. Matter ongoing.

09/15/17 – BM notified of time sheets being handed in prior to management approval. Matter resolved.

10/03/17 – Company has announced that they have hired another member of the Union into they’re Creative Services department. Member’s start date is 10/16/17.

NEGOTIATIONS:

08/18/17 – Ballots distributed to the members by way of the local were sent on August 18. Ballots are due back 9/14 and the final vote tally will be 9/15.

 08/29-8/30/17 International Representatives along with the Business Managers held two conference calls regarding ratification changes to the current deal on (8/29 at 1pm EST and 8/30 at 12pm PST).  

09/06/17 – International Representatives and the Business Managers held a conference call with the company over the TV station’s group. The company has agreed with the Union over the employee’s option as opposed to the company’s.

 

SPORTS:        

06/06/17 – Arbitration on behalf of member was canceled May 18th and now has been rescheduled for December. 

08/17/17 – Company reached out to BR over member’s sick days in this calendar year. Company did another follow up 8/17. Matter ongoing.

8/21-8/27/17 – (Site Visit) BM did a visit at the Northern Trust PGA Tour event in Old Westbury, Long Island. BM met with members and management.

08/25/17 – BR spoke with Local 41 rep over Utility crewing 1212 members in Buffalo for the upcoming NFL season. BM did a follow up on 9/6. Matter ongoing.

09/06/17 – BM & BR spoke with member from golf crew over the issues on the tour. Matter ongoing.

09/10/17 – (Site Visit) BM did a visit to the CBS Broadcast Center for the opening weekend of the NFL Season. BM met with management and members.

 

NEWS:                    

07/28/17 – Member on last chance warning was terminated. Grievance was filed. Vice President Bill Zizza updated the Union on 9/6. Matter ongoing.

08/16/17 – BR deferred with legal counsel regarding three grievances sent to the company. Union has decided to withdraw those with prejudice.

08/29/17 – Company confirmed a meeting on September 9th with management and representatives from the Union. On 9/06 – Meeting was officially postponed. No rescheduled date has been set.

 

CBS INTERACTIVE:  

 

07/28/17 – Grievance was filed on 6/09/17. Union has decided to withdraw this grievance as well with prejudice.

 

HBO:

05/30/17 – BM, BR held conference call with committee over labor management agenda items. Both sides looking for dates to meet in October.

08/18/17 – BR met with Steward and member on performance review with management and HR. Company removed the warning letter to the member’s existing file.

09/05/17- Counsel notified BM of dates arbitrators had available to review the relocation of memebers from NY Studios to Hauppauge. Union Conferreing on dates.

09/07/17- Company has offered to relocate another wave of members to the NY Studios in Hauppague

 

FOX SPORTS:        

08/03/17 – Grievance filed by Union per section 2 and 4 of the CBA, failure to seek freelance employees from the Union. Matter ongoing.

08/16/17 –  Counsel resent a letter to company over member suffering from heat exhaustion at the Women’s US Open. Message from company has been received. Matter ongoing.

08/23/17 – International Representatives and Business Managers from the Union as well as Managers from the company took part in a three-hour Labor Management Meeting.

 08/31/17 – Grievance filed by International on July 5th pertaining to Golf relief; per Side letter 11 in CBA. Company responded on and issued a USGA plan for relief going forward on golf. Grievance meeting pending.

09/07/17 – Management reached out to BM about Team People being acquired by System One Services. All terms and conditions will remain in place.

 

WPIX:             

08/09/17 – After two days bargaining. Both parties expected to meet again on September 18th and 19th.

 

Stage 29 Productions:           

09/06/17 – IBEW Local 1212 has signed a project labor agreement with Stage 29 productions to represent the technicians for Daily Mail TV.

09/08/17 – BR did a walk thru with production and technical staff at the WPIX station during rehearsals.

 

WNET:            

09/07/17 – Counsel reached out to Union to schedule dates for the Fall regarding negotiations. Both sides last met on 5/31.

 

WFAN:            

08/18/17 – BM confirmed that the next negotiation will be September 12th.

09/12/17 – BM, BR, Committee and Counsel met with company for another round of negotiations. Next date is set for 9/29/17.

 

WNJU:            

07/31/17 – Members notified union over wage escalator in the CBA. Union reviewing the matter.

08/16/17 – BM was pleased announced that the contract ratified between the IBEW Local 1212 and Channel 47 Telemundo. The contract will run until September of 2019.

08/29/17 – BR, HR, Member and Management discussed training and improvement on member’s skills to perform work at the station. Company asking for a follow up with BM and BR.

08/30/17 – Member confirmed with company that raises in new agreement will be reflected in the pay period after the Labor Day.

08/30/17 – Company issued policy on travel and expense to all our members that work in the field.

WXTV:            

 07/25/17 – Negotiations on 8/21 and 8/22 were canceled. Both sides will meet again September 13 and 14.

         

PRUDENTIAL CENTER:        

09/05/17 – Another round of negotiations at the Prudential Center. Next date is set for September 21st. There is also a hold on September 25th.

09/08/17 – BM, BR, Council held a conference call with the committee.

 

Office:            

08/15-8/17/17 – BM and BR talk part in the 2-day IBEW 3rd District Progress Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA.

08/24/17 – International representatives and council members held a conference call for the upcoming BCC meetings in the Fall and Spring.

08/28-8/31/17 – BR, President Mike Naeder and Vice President Bill Zizza took part in the 3-day IBEW Membership Development Conference in Chicago, IL. 

09/09/17 – BM, BR, President Mike Naeder and Vice President Bill Zizza along with members of the Executive Board took part in the Labor Day Parade up 5th avenue. 

 09/11/17 – BM took part in the 9/11 disaster relief fund in conjunction with IBEW Local 3 out in Queens, NY.

 

 

 

August 2017

BUSINESS MANAGER’S REPORT

 

CBS –   

 

NEGOTIATIONS:

                                     

On August 8, 2017, the Union held a ratification meeting at the Watson Hotel in Mid-town. Members of CBS read through the Memorandum of Agreement and asked questions reading the changes that will take effect.

 

International Office provided materials for the voting packets being mailed to the membership. The International Office also confirmed two conference calls regarding ratification ( 8/29 at 1pm EST and 8/30 at 12pm PST). Ballots are due back 9/14 and the final vote tally will be 9/15.

                                   

 

 

SPORTS:                   

 

Company reached out to BR over members sick days in this calendar year. Union reviewing the matter.

 

Company announced they will roll out a sports themed 24-hour live streaming network later this year.

 

 

NEWS:  

 

Member on last chance warning was terminated back in early July is now drafting an appeal letter for the Union.

 

Company denied three grievances regarding prosumer, editing and weekend work. Items moved to ICAP. Union has decided to drop the grievances.

 

 

CBS INTERACTIVE:  

 

 

Grievance was filed on 6/09/17, then later moved to ICAP. Union has now decided to drop this grievance.

 

CBSN was added to the CBS All-Access company and streaming subscription service.

 

FOX SPORTS:           

 

Labor Management Meeting/ Conference Call set for August 23rd.

 

Counsel has revised a grievance letter for BM to review. The grievance outlines section 2 and 4 in the current CBA (Failure to seek freelance employees from the Union).

           


TEAM PEOPLE:       

BM signed new copies of the current agreement to be distributed to the International, the company and our members.

 

WPIX:            

Negotiations between both sides resumed at the Union Office. Next dates are set for August 9th and 10th.  

Shop Steward notified Union about broadcast being pre-empted by the Baseball game.

Negotiations continued at the station of WPIX on Wednesday the 9th of August. Another round continued the 10th at the Union Office. Both parties expected to meet again on September 18th and 19th.

 

WFAN:                      

 

Negotiations commenced at the Union Office. Contract expires on August 22nd. Both sides looking for new dates.

WNJU:           

 

July 31, 2017– BM, BR, Council held an all-day Ratification meeting with membership to review changes in the current CBA. The ballots are due back on August 15th.

Member notified union over wage escalator in the CBA. Union reviewing the matter.

WXTV:                      

 

Negotiations continued at the TV Station on 7/25 and at the Union Office on 7/27. Next dates are set for 8/21 and 8/22.

             

 

PRUDENTIAL CENTER:     

 

Union and Company have agreed next bargaining date will be August 11th.

 

Negotiations continued at the Prudential Center. Company offered counters to Union’s initial proposals. Next dates for negotiations are tentatively set for September 5th, 21st and 25th.

 

             

Office:            

 

T-Shirts for the upcoming Labor Day Parade on September 9th have been ordered. Union also looking at quotes on a banner for the parade.

BUSINESS MANAGER’S REPORT

 

CBS –   

 

NEGOTIATIONS:

 

BM was in Washington, DC with the other IBEW Reps for final preparation of CBS National Negotiations.

 

July 9 – 22, 2017 – BM, BR and members of the negotiating committee from Local 1212 took part in two weeks of CBS/ IBEW Negotiations.

 

July 22, 2017 – IBEW and CBS have reached a 39-month tentative agreement that runs from Feb 1, 2018 to April of 2021.

 

SPORTS:      

 

Arbitration on behalf of member was canceled May 18th and now have been rescheduled for November 7th

 

NEWS:

 

Company denied three grievances regarding prosumer, editing and weekend work. Matter moving to ICAP.

 

Union filed for ICAP with the International Office over the four grievances that the company denied.

 

                       

BROADCAST CENTER:

 

Saturday, July 22nd at approximately 6 PM all tech power will be shut down at Broadcast Center. All power work could be finished as early as 14:00 or 15:00 on Sunday the 23rd.

 

 

CBS INTERACTIVE:  

 

Company denied grievance regarding members being upgraded on the weekends. Matter moving to ICAP.

 

Members of the separate CBS/ IBEW Local 1212 Interactive agreement have been tentatively rolled into the IBEW/ CBS National Agreement come

FOX SPORTS:

 

Labor Management Meeting/ Conference Call with company and Union was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. No date set yet to reschedule.

 

Grievance filed by International pertaining to Golf relief per Side letter 11 in CBA.

 

July 8 – 16, 2017 –  Women’s US Open at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ played host to the 4-day tournament. 

 

Counsel sent letter to company over member suffering from heat exhaustion at the Women’s US Open. Awaiting a response from company.

           

                            
TEAM PEOPLE:     

Shop Stewards notified Union that some members are being asked to work a Holiday. On June 26th, company agreed to pay holiday pay for the event and gave the members a day off in lieu. 

 

WPIX:       

Negotiations between both sides resumed at Channel 11 – WPIX. Next date is set for July 26th. 

 

WNJU:                  

Negotiations were moved to a call-in discussion with both legal counsels.

On June 23, 2017, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at One World Trade Center. Telemundo Channel 47 is the first Television Station in the Tri-State Area to transmit their signal from WTC.

Negotiations continued at the Union Office.

BM, BR, Counsel held a conference call with committee team to review the changes of the negotiation between the Union and company.

Company has granted the Union’s request to host a shop meeting to review the changes of the current negotiation for ratification of a new agreement. Date is set for July 31, 207 between 10 am – 6pm.

 

WXTV:                

 

06/21/17 – Negotiations continued at the Union Office. Next dates are set for 7/25 and 7/27.

             

 

PRUDENTIAL CENTER:

 

BM, BR, International Representative Dominic Macchia and Counsel held a shop meeting with members prior to negotiations on June 15, 2017. Our Brothers and Sisters in Clifton, NJ (IBEW 1158) played host to the event.

 

June 29, 2017 – Negotiations commenced at the Prudential Center in Newark. No date is set for the next meeting.

 

Union proposed next bargaining dates. Company responded with August 9th and 11th. Union reviewing dates.

BUSINESS MANAGER’S REPORT

 

CBS –   

 

NEGOTIATIONS:

 

BM will be in Washington, DC with the other IBEW Representatives on June 25-27 for final CBS Negotiation preparations.

 

SPORTS:                  

 

Arbitration in June postponed. Dates will be rescheduled for the Fall.

 

BM, BR, President and Vice President met with senior management for a Labor/Management meeting.

                                   

Arbitration on behalf of member was canceled May 18th and now has been rescheduled for November 7th

 

NEWS:     

 

BM, BR, International Reps and members from the bargaining unit held conference call over Prosumer language.

 

BM wrote letter in Step 2 of the Prosumer procedure. Company responded back and agreed it was in fact a violation.

 

Grievance filed on Work Jurisdiction violation. Company/Labor Relations has agreed to meet with Union on June 20th.

 

Company announced Rick Jefferson will step into VP of Operations at CBS News. In other announcements, Mel Olinsky was also promoted to Executive Director; Bureau Operations and Cheryl Williams was promoted to Director of Production.

 

Grievance filed regarding jurisdiction violation involving CBS Interactive. Another grievance was filed involving Prosumer language. Both grievances will be discussed on 6/20/17 with the company.

 

WCBS:  

 

BM and Company discussed settlement package for long time staff member. Both sides agreed on term and end date for retirement.

                                   

           

 

 

 

MAINTEANCE:                  

 

HR investigation initiated. After weeks of interviewing members and management, matter is near its conclusion.

 

 

NEWSPATH:                       

 

Phase one of construction is done.  Newspath entering phase two of the remodel.

 

 

CBS INTERACTIVE:  

 

BR, President Mike Naeder and Vice President Bill Zizza held an all-day meeting at the Broadcast Center to speak with members on their current agreement reaching expiration.

 

Grievance filed on 06/09/17 on jurisdiction violation involving CBS Interactive Agreement.

                  

HBO:  

 

Grievance filed by Union to company on members relocating from the Studios to the Communications Center.  

 

BM held conference call with committee over relocation. Matter ongoing.

BM, BR held conference call with committee over labor management agenda items. Both sides looking for dates to meet.

 

 

FOX SPORTS:          

 

 Labor Management Meeting is set for June 13th from 1-3pm EST.

 

06/09-06/10/17 – (Site Visit). BM and BR did a visit to Poconos Raceway for the Pocono 400 NASCAR event on FS1. Union spoke with members over various issues and concerns.

 

 

MSG:       

 

Company outlined monies owed to members dating back to January 2015.  Matter is now resolved.

 

 

 

 

 

WPIX:                   

 

Sinclair has agreed in principle to acquire Tribune Media.

 

BM, BR, Counsel held a shop meeting at the station prior to negotiations.

 

BM, BR, Counsel and committee held a meeting at the Union Office prior to start of negotiations.

 

Negotiations commenced at the Union Office. The next date for both parties to meet is June 22nd at the station of WPIX.

WNET:                

BM, Council held a committee meeting at the Union Office.

BM, BR, Council commenced negotiations with the company. The current contract expired in April.

BM, Council held another round of negotiations with both sides at the Union office. The next date is not yet set.

WNJU:                  

 

Negotiations continued. The next dates are set for June 5th in NY and June 6th in NJ.

Shop Steward notified BM / BR about transmitter being unveiled at the Freedom Tower.

Channel 47 unveiled their newest transmitter, the first to transmit from the Freedom Tower.

Company canceled negotiations on 6/5 at the Union Office.

Negotiations resumed between both parties at the station June 6, 2017. Next round is tentatively set for June 23rd and June 30th.

WXTV:

Negotiations on May 31st were canceled.

Shop Steward is inquiring about the use of a 4-hour call. Union review and matter is now settled.

 

BM, Counsel held a meeting with company. Negotiations will continue June 21st.

           

 

PRUDENTIAL CENTER:

 

Election and ballot count was held at the National Labor Relations Board; Region 22 in Newark. Local 1212 overwhelmingly won the election.

 

Labor Board Certified Representation stating that the “International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1212 […] is the exclusive collective-bargaining representative.

 

Union sent out a survey to the shop prior to negotiations with the company. Final surveys are due back June 7th.

 

Union confirmed Shop Meeting will be held on June 15th at our sister local in Clifton, NJ (IBEW1158) between 4-7pm.

 

 

OFFICE:

 

Craig Duffy; Representative of the IBEW conducted Shop Steward Training at the Union Office. Many new Stewards from all our different signatories took part in the one-day session.

 

BM, BR, and President Mike Naeder took part in the BCC/ BMT Conference in Phoenix, AZ.

L/M Meeting originally scheduled for March 13th has been rescheduled for 5/17

 

BM/ BR spoke with company over penalty time owed. Company did correct payment. Matter resolved.

 

BM/ BR, International Reps and Council held a conference call over upcoming Arbitration in June.           

 

Counsel informed Union that the company is seeking the June 15th adjournment. Dates will be rescheduled for the Fall.

                                   

NEWS:   

 

Member reached out Union over short turnaround owed working on 6th day. Matter ongoing.

 

Member reached out Union over Asst. Supervisor upgrade for Steadicam Operation. Company is honoring rate but night differential in question. Matter ongoing.  

                                   

WCBS:

 

VP Bill Zizza along with ABM Ben Castro attended a meeting on behalf of member. Matter ongoing.

 

BM, BR, VP Bill Zizza and E-Board Member Dan Ham met with management at the NAB Convention in Vegas.

           

TX:  

 

ABM / VP Bill Zizza notified BM/ BR of a meeting between members in maintenance. Meeting is set for 5/8 at 9am.

 

RADIO:

 

Company explained its structure on who to report to now under the News division department.

 

 

 

                  

HBO:          

 

BM, BR, spoke with Shop Steward over company wanting to hire per diem employee before staff’s first right of refusal.

 

BR met with company to go over some policies and procedures.

The company has alerted the Locals that they will need Headshots for all members working the upcoming baseball season.

 

 

MSG:

 

BM met with management at the NAB Convention in Vegas. Topics discussed was workflow.

           

 

TEAM PEOPLE:     

           

Shop Steward notified that member has been informed from company that they can take Unpaid PTO during grace period of STD.  If approved, while on disability leave you are not required to use PTO. The only time PTO would be used, is if you decide to use PTO to cover the 7-day waiting period.

 

WPIX:    

 

BM sent out Contract Survey to membership for upcoming contract that is set to expire June 14.

SPORTS:

 

 A L/M Meeting scheduled for March 13th was canceled by the company. Looking for dates to reschedule.

 

NCAA – Site Visit, CBS Broadcast Center. BM/ BR met with members & management. Discussed various issues.

 

CBB East Regionals – Site Visit. MSG hosted the 2017 Men’s CBB East Regionals. International Representative, BM and BR met with members and management.

 

CBB Final Four – Site Visit. University of Phoenix Stadium hosted the 2017 Men’s Final Four. BR along with BM’s met with members and management.

 

Augusta National Golf Tournament – Site Visit. BM met with members at the site of the 2017 Masters.

 

 

NEWS:   

 

Grievance filed on 02/08/17 on jurisdiction violation. Company has canceled scheduled grievance meeting. Looking for new dates.

 

WCBS:      

 

VP Bill Zizza along with ABM Ben Castro attended a meeting on behalf of member.  

 

NEWSPATH:   

 

Construction continues in Newspath. Company has supplied environmental reports on health conditions and air quality. Project is expected to last 6 weeks.

CBS News President David Rhodes announcement “CBSN Originals” to broadcast on CBS Network. BM to meet with Labor Relations to discuss workflow under terms of the National CBA.

 

                  

HBO:  

 

BM/ BR held conference call with committee members over docked day for Snow Storm on 3/14.

 

BM spoke with member over relocation to Long Island. Matter ongoing.

                            

BM attended meeting with Shop Stewards and Management over new plans with uplink/ downlink.

BM working with Committee on survey to the membership for the upcoming contract that is expiring in June.

Office Staff took part in the International Compliance Meeting.

 

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Stephenson was one of the honorees hosted by the New Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. BM of Local 3 – Chris Erickson introduced President Stephenson before addressing the delegates and guests in attendance. BR and IBEW Local 1212 President Naeder were in attendance.

 

  

March 2017

BUSINESS MANAGER’S REPORT

 

CBS –   

 

SPORTS:            

 

BM / BR and VP Zizza will attend Labor Management Meeting with the management on March 27th.

 

BR met with members in Studio 43 and 44.

 

HARD NEWS:                         

 

During a site visit, BR observed the CBS Evening News from the new playout system.                     

 

MDC:                     

 

Management and BM, BR, President and Vice President of the Union meet for a meeting to discuss workflow and scheduling.

 

                                   

NEWSPATH:               

 

BM/ BR sat in on a safety meeting during the upcoming plans for construction. ABM, Shop Steward and Safety Coordinator on hand with company to go over the plans. Company had layout of floor plans w/ zones and what safety precautions will be taken as well as discussed how equipment will be protected for the 6 weeks of construction.

 

CBS INTERACTIVE:

 

Member notified BR that they were paid correctly for the Inauguration and upgraded to the CBS National Agreement.

 

CBS LIBRARIANS:

 Member notified Office he was appointed a new position of Supervisor of Broadcast and Conference Operations.

Company notified BR that the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program, field assessment to make sure our field crew is following procedure.

Both sides met at the TV station in NJ for another round of negotiations. Next date is set for March 16 back in NJ. There is also a date before that on March 15th with Committee only.

BM has put in for Shop Steward Training through the International Office. That date has been set for May 16th.

Executive Board Member Cheryl Thomas attended the AFL-CIO Women’s Conference in New Jersey. The 14th Annual “W.I.L.D” (Women in Leadership Development) was a 2-day event held in East Brunswick, NJ.

Site Visit 2016 AFC Championship) Foxboro, Mass. BM & International Rep spoke with members and management over various issues.

 

Member notified BM/BR of schedule changes from 10 to 8 hour calls on week days for studio shows. Union following up with management.

 

NEWS:

 

 BM/ BR and ABM held a meeting with senior management to discuss workflow at the Presidential Inauguration.

 

Shop Steward notified BM/ BR of editing jurisdictions for the Weekend News. Union filed a grievance on 11/04/16. Meeting originally scheduled for Feb 15. Labor Relations has now asked for the meeting to be postponed. Matter ongoing.

                                   

WCBS:                  

 

BM, ABM held a lunch meeting with senior management to discuss operational needs and workflow.

 

MDC:

 

Lunch meeting with management scheduled for February 16th.

 

CONSTRUCTION SHOP:

 

Union made aware of six per diems laid off.

 

BROADCAST CTR:

 

BR did a site visit with Executive Board Member Phil Doyle and Vice President William Zizza.

BM, Counsel met at the Grace Building in NYC with senior management to discuss the relocation of members.

                                   

BM, BR and Shop Stewards held a conference call to review the meeting on members being relocated. BM/ BR and Counsel spoke with member affected by relocation to Long Island CC.  

 

BM/ BR held a call with Shop Stewards over per diem use and jurisdictional work at the Long Island CC.

BM/ BR had a lunch meeting with Management to go over 2016-2017 season and workflow.

BR, Shop Steward and Counsel met with company for Step 2 in the grievance procedure. Both parties arranging a meeting prior to the Union filing for Arbitration.

BM spoke with Shop Steward over delayed meal penalty being effected. Counsel has been briefed. Matter is now closed.

Company emailed BM/BR about new active Vacation tracker available to members.

 Negotiations continued at the local office. Next rounds are set for February 17th and March 8th. Also waiting on a third date which would be February 23rd.

 

 

WXTV:

 

Negotiations continued at the local office. Next date is set for February 27th in NJ and February 28th back in the Union Office. There are also dates set for the middle of March.

 

WFAN:

 

Merger announced between ETM (Entercom Communications Corp.) and CBS.

 

Company sent over signed 1-year extension to the agreement. All terms and conditions apply. Contract expires in late August.

 

OFFICE:

 

BR, along with two Executive Board Members attended the EWMC in Anaheim, California. The event began with a Youth Renew Conference and then a Day of Giving. The event wrapped up with a 3-Day Conference. This was the 27th annual event. Next year’s is set for Detroit, Michigan.

Member notified BM/ BR that in the coming months that the company has agreed two freelance/ temps will be made staff.

 

Broadcast Center:

 

BM site visit at the Broadcast Center.  Met with Members and Mangagement.

                       

BM did a site visit at the Broadcast Center. Met with Co-oord Rooms, News and Sports.

 

FOX

 

BR did a site visit at MetLife Stadium for Giants vs Lions.

 

 

HBO

 

BR spoke with Shop Steward over workflow concerns at the studios. Union reviewing the matter.   

 

BM, BR, Counsel and committee members held a grievance meeting with company at NY studios on 23rd street regarding the Company relocating members from the Studio to Hauppauge Communications Center. Union now filed for arbitration.

 

WPIX

 

Union has filed for Step 2 in the grievance procedure. New dates are being offered for the week of January 16th. Not date yet confirmed.

 

Shop Steward has filed a grievance on behalf of reporter shooting cell phone for the web and then being used twice for Broadcast air. Union reviewing the matter.
